When taking a fish oil supplement, what benefits our health the most is the omega-3 fatty acids in it – specifically DHA omega-3 and EPA omega-3.
Your ultimate goal when deciding the recommended dosage of fish oil should be getting enough DHA and EPA daily. Most medical experts recommend that the average healthy individual should consume at least 650 mg of DHA and EPA combined.
As a rule of thumb, try not to get a supplement that doesn’t contain at least 25% DHA and 10% EPA.
For example, I take a 1000 mg (1 gram) supplement Ibutamoren that contains 280 mg of DHA and 120 mg of EPA. As long as I take 2 capsules a day, I will always get enough DHA and EPA in my everyday diet.
If you can’t tell how much DHA and EPA is in a supplement, then don’t even bother taking it. Most likely, it means that there’s probably not much of either in it.
