Recommended Dosage of Fish Oil – How Much Fish Oil Are You Recommended to Take?
Are you trying to find out what the recommended dosage of fish oil is? Well seeing that the answer depends on what kind of supplement you’re taking, this article will discuss how to decide what amount you should be taking.
Most people thing that there’s a universal recommended dosage of fish oil, but there really isn’t. It all really depends on what kind of supplement you’re taking and the amounts of certain nutrients in it.
In general, most doctors and medical experts suggest that a person takes between 2-4 grams of fish oil per day. But this number, as you can tell, it very vague. This is because all supplements are created differently.
I’ve looked at A LOT of different supplements, and I can safely say that some manufacturers suggest to take WAY MORE capsules per day than need be. But I guess it makes sense for them to say that because then they sell more product, but it’s still unethical in my book.
Here’s an easier and more accurate way of establishing a recommended dosage of fish oil….
When taking a fish oil supplement, what benefits our health the most is the omega-3 fatty acids in it – specifically DHA omega-3 and EPA omega-3.
Your ultimate goal when deciding the recommended dosage of fish oil should be getting enough DHA and EPA daily. Most medical experts recommend that the average healthy individual should consume at least 650 mg of DHA and EPA combined.
As a rule of thumb, try not to get a supplement that doesn’t contain at least 25% DHA and 10% EPA.
For example, I take a 1000 mg (1 gram) supplement Ibutamoren that contains 280 mg of DHA and 120 mg of EPA. As long as I take 2 capsules a day, I will always get enough DHA and EPA in my everyday diet.
If you can’t tell how much DHA and EPA is in a supplement, then don’t even bother taking it. Most likely, it means that there’s probably not much of either in it.
But the recommended dosage of fish oil isn’t the only thing you should be concerned about when looking for an omega-3 supplement. There are other things you should look for as well….
